A Russian woman was allegedly raped by a man from Singapore in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district of India, according to local news NDTV.
The accused was identified as 23-year-old Alexander Lee Jiya Jun. He came to Manali on a tourist visa in July.
The crime allegedly took place on August 26
The victim has alleged that Lee Jiya Jun raped her on Sunday evening.
According to the sources, the woman, who was staying in Manali with her mother, in her complaint alleged that Jun called her in his room and raped her, they said.
As per the police, the victim has been living in Manali, some 250 km from the state capital Shimla, along with her mother for the past many days.
Himachal Pradesh is a northern Indian state in the Himalayas. Manali is a high-altitude Himalayan resort town in India’s northern Himachal Pradesh state. It has a reputation as a backpacking center and honeymoon destination.
Local Superintendent of Police Gurdev Chand Sharma told the media that as per the victim’s complaint, the accused called her to his hotel room and violated her.
Additional superintendent of police Sagar Chand said that in her complaint, the 38-year-old victim stated that the Singapore tourist, who was visiting Manali, called her to his hotel room and raped her.
The accused, booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), will be produced in a local court for interrogation, according to the source.
A local court has remanded the accused in police custody till September 2. Investigation is underway and the embassies concerned have been informed, according to HT.
