On Wednesday (Mar 29) morning, the body of a baby was discovered at the foot of a housing block in Hougang, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
At around 11:05 am on Wednesday, SCDF received a call for assistance at Block 166 Hougang Avenue 1, according to reports.
Upon arrival, SCDF found a baby at the foot of the block, who was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic. SCDF also transported another person to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The police were alerted to a case of unnatural death at 11:32 am and an 18-year-old woman is currently assisting with investigations.
Police officers were seen outside a flat on the second storey and then shutting the door, according to CNA.
Ms Siva, a resident in the area, said the family living in the flat – consisting of a husband, a wife, a grandmother, and a daughter – had moved in three years ago. She arrived home at around 3 pm and saw the family’s flat being cordoned off, CNA reported after speaking with the resident.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
According to a resident named James, who is a 26-year-old software engineer, the morning was quiet until around 1pm when he noticed police activity below his third-floor window. He stated that he did not hear anything prior to this, according to The Straits Times report.
Another resident, Norsuefi Nordin, age 30, who lives on the second floor, reported that the police came to his door around noon asking if he had heard a scream, but he had not.pm
Police were seen questioning a middle-aged woman at the void deck of the block for approximately an hour starting at 1:30 pm.
A young man who was with her declined to comment when asked if the teen lived in the unit that was cordoned, according to The Straits Times.
