According to the press releases by Singapore Police Force they have arrested four men, aged between 24 and 65 years old, for their suspected involvements in four separate cases of outrage of modesty.
Case 1 : At Void deck
On 31 August 2022 at about 10.20 pm, the victim lodged a police report stating that on 29 August 2022 at about 10.40 pm, she was followed by an unknown man to a block of flats along Hougang Ave 2, who allegedly molested her at the void deck.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 24-year-old man and arrested him on 1 September 2022, according to SPF.
Case 2 : At Void deck
On 1 September 2022 at about 10 pm, the Police were alerted to a case where the victim was approached and allegedly molested by an unknown man at the void deck of a block of flats along Serangoon North Ave 1.
According to the Police release, through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the 65-year-old man and arrested him within three hours of the information received.
Both men have been charged in court on 3 September 2022.
In the first case, the man was charged with the offence of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871. In the second case, the man was charged with the offence of aggravated outrage of modesty against any person below 14 years of age under Section 354A(2)(b) of the Penal Code 1871.
TWO CASES ON SAME DAY
Case 3 : Along Jurong Gateway
In a sperate press release the Police said that they have arrested a 32-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty.
On 3 September 2022 at about 11.40pm, the Police received a report that a female teenager was purportedly molested by an unknown man along Jurong Gateway Road. Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs, officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within 16 hours of the report.
The man will be charged in court on 6 September 2022. The offence of outrage of modesty, punishable under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
Case 4 : Inside Lift
According to another press release, the Police said that have arrested a 29-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty, the man was arrested within three hours from the report.
On 3 September 2022 at about 11.00 pm, the Police were alerted to a case where a woman was purportedly molested by a man while inside a lift along Tampines Avenue 2.
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from CCTVs and police cameras, officers from Bedok Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within three hours from the report, the police added.
The man will be charged in court on 5 September 2022. The offence of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
ZERO TOLERANCE
The offence under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to three years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments. The offence under Section 354A(2)(b) of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of not less than three years and not more than 10 years and with caning.
Referring to first two cases, Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Zed Teo commended his officers for their swift action in responding to, identifying and arresting the two men in these cases.
AC Zed Teo said: “The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the safety of the community and will spare no effort in ensuring that offenders are swiftly apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the law.”
