A 35-year-old man has been detained by the police for his alleged involvement in a loanshark harassment case.
The Police were notified of a case of loanshark harassment along Bedok North Street 3 at 11:22 p.m. on January 9, 2023, where a bicycle lock had been used to secure a residential unit’s gate.
Officers from the Bedok Police Division identified the individual and apprehended him on January 11, 2023, using additional investigations and photos from police cameras.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man is allegedly involved in two other cases of loanshark harassment.
A bicycle lock, bag and mobile phone were seized as case exhibits. Police investigations are ongoing.
For first-time offenders, the offence of loanshark harassment under the Moneylenders Act 2008 carries a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, with imprisonment of up to five years, and caning of up to six strokes.
