On 14 January 2022 the Police were alerted to an alleged stabbing incident that happened at Blk 413 Commonwealth Avenue West.
Later with the help of police officers and the images from CCTV cameras, the officers from Clementi Police Division established the identity of the two men and arrested them on the same day, within nine hours of the incident.
Two Men Were Arrested For Stabbing & Slashing A Man At Commonwealth Ave West In Just 9 Hours
Both men who attacked another man with knife escaped from the scene after the attack, the victim sustained a slash wound on his left arm and a stab wound on his back. The victim was conscious when conveyed to the hospital.
The two men were charged in court on 15 January 2022 with voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon with common intention.
FIVE MORE ARRESTED
In a press release from SPF on 27 Jan, the police said “Through follow-up investigations by officers from Clementi Police Division, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Police Intelligence Department (PID), five more men, aged between 22 and 40, were subsequently arrested between 18 and 25 January 2022 for their suspected involvement in abetting the commission of the offence”.
BUSINESS DISPUTE
Of the five other men arrested by SPF, a 36-year-old man, allegedly paid for the victim to be hurt due to a business dispute. The remaining four men are believed to have played the roles of intermediaries in the knife attack, the police said in a release.
Three of the men have been charged in court with the offence of abetment to voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
Commander of Clementi Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Marc E said, “The officers involved worked round-the-clock and were determined to bring those responsible to justice”.
The offence carries an imprisonment term of up to seven years, or fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments. The remaining two men are currently assisting in investigations, the police added.
