A 15-year-old secondary school student was hospitalized following a serious assault incident involving two classmates who accused her of sharing a video of another student vaping in a school toilet.
According to ST, the altercation occurred on August 29, the day before Teachers’ Day, shortly after the students were dismissed from school.
According to the victim, who spoke with The Straits Times, the confrontation began as she was walking home with a friend around 10:40 AM.
They were approached by a fellow student who insisted they go to a nearby void deck, where a group of schoolmates awaited them.
Upon arrival, the group demanded to see her mobile phone. When she refused, they forcibly took it from her.
The situation escalated when approximately ten individuals from the group dragged the victim and her friend to a multi-storey carpark. It was there that one female student allegedly slapped the victim repeatedly after she declined to unlock her phone.
The victim reported that her friend, intimidated by the group, was ordered to leave the carpark.
The aggression continued as the assailant punched the victim multiple times, causing her glasses to fly off her face.
Utilizing the Face ID function on the victim’s phone, one of the classmates gained access to her device, taking photos and videos, including what was purportedly evidence of her sharing the vaping video.
She stated that the student who had been hitting her, along with another student who had lured her there, forced her to kneel by kicking her legs and insisted that she apologize to the female student who was filmed vaping.
“When I was kneeling and after I apologised, the girl who kept hitting me started to pull my hair and then continued to slap and punch me,” she added.
Once the attackers departed, the victim managed to call her mother, even as her phone was reportedly damaged during the incident. Her mother contacted the police, who responded by dispatching an ambulance to transport the teenager to a local hospital for medical evaluation, where she received treatment for a nosebleed, swollen lips, and bruising.
The police have confirmed that a report has been filed, and investigations are ongoing.
In a statement, the victim’s school acknowledged awareness of the incident and stated that they have identified those involved.
“We take a serious view of acts of violence and bullying, and will assist the police in their investigation,” said the school. “We are in touch with the affected student and her family to monitor her well-being.”
The girl’s father informed ST that he is concerned for his daughter’s safety and plans to hire a domestic helper for added protection. He is currently spending time with her to ensure she isn’t left alone.
According to the student, the school has arranged for a teacher to accompany her to and from school from this point forward.
