In a swift response to a reported theft, police have apprehended a 43-year-old female foreign traveler in connection with a shop theft case that took place in the transit area of Changi Airport.
The incident came to light on 17 October 2024, when police received a report regarding a pair of sunglasses, valued at approximately S$270, that had gone missing from a retail outlet within the airport, the police said in a press release.

A stock check conducted on 14 October revealed the absence of the item, prompting an investigation.
Using CCTV footage, officers from the Airport Police Division were able to identify the suspect, who had left Singapore shortly after the alleged theft.
According to preliminary investigations, the woman was accused of entering the store, removing the price tag from a pair of sunglasses, and then replacing the stolen sunglasses with her own pair before exiting the store without making any payment.
The suspect returned to Singapore on 14 December 2024, where she was promptly arrested by police. She is set to face charges in court on 18 December 2024 for theft under Section 380 of the Penal Code 1871, an offence that carries a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment and/or a fine.
