Authorities responded quickly to an incident at the Church of the Holy Spirit, located at 248 Upper Thomson Road, following a call for assistance at approximately 10:35 AM.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a 22-year-old Singaporean Chinese man allegedly attempted to assault a priest shortly after a church service, as congregants were dispersing.
The man was promptly detained by church security personnel before the situation escalated, according to a statement issued by Singapore Police Force.
Fortunately, no weapon was found on his person, and the priest involved did not sustain any injuries.
“Based on preliminary investigations the man is a regular church goer” the police said.
“We would like to remind the public to refrain from speculation as investigations are ongoing” the police added.
“The Police would like to advise the public to cooperate with security personnel deployed at places of worship, as they are there to ensure a safe environment for all”.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
