A 70-year-old woman was arrested on June 15 for a series of pickpocketing cases at a market and food centre in Yishun Ring Road.
The police stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the woman allegedly targeted individuals with unzipped bags, took their wallets, removed the cash, and then discarded the wallets in the vicinity, according to ST.
Reports of missing wallets in the area had been received by the police between July 24, 2023, and June 13.
Through CCTV footage and ground inquiries, officers from Woodlands Police Division were able to identify and apprehend the woman on June 15.
It is believed that the woman may have been involved in similar offences as well, according to the police.
She is set to be charged in court on June 17 for theft, which carries a maximum penalty of three years in jail, a fine, or both.
