The Police have arrested three youths, aged between 16 and 17, in connection with the theft of two rental vehicles from a multi-storey carpark on Upper Serangoon Road.
The arrests were made following a tip-off from the victim on December 7, 2024, at approximately 3:20 PM.
According to the victim, two of his rental cars were reported stolen from the carpark.
Swift investigations by officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the three suspects on December 10, 2024.
Both stolen vehicles were successfully recovered.
According to the Police press release two of the youths set to face charges in court on including:
- Theft of motor vehicle under Section 379A of the Penal Code 1871
- Driving while under the age of 18, in violation of the Road Traffic Act 1961
- Operating a vehicle without valid insurance coverage under the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation) Act 1960
The third youth will also be charged on the same date with related offences, including:
- Dishonestly retaining stolen property under Section 411(2) of the Penal Code 1871
- Driving while under the age of 18
- Using a vehicle without insurance coverage
The penalties for these offences are serious. The theft of a motor vehicle can result in an imprisonment term of up to seven years and a fine. Dishonestly retaining stolen property can lead to a maximum of five years in prison, along with fines and potential disqualification from obtaining a driving licence. Underage driving and driving without valid insurance could mean up to three months in prison and fines of up to $1,000 for first-time offenders.
