A 25-year-old woman was recently apprehended by the police at Changi Airport for misusing her boarding pass to enter the transit area with the sole purpose of meeting her idol from the popular K-pop group Enhypen.

According to the police, the woman allegedly purchased an air ticket solely to obtain a boarding pass, despite having no intention of leaving Singapore. This unauthorized use of a boarding pass prompted authorities to take action, emphasizing the severity of the offense in a media release on Thursday (Feb 8).

Enhypen, a seven-member South Korean boy band, had held concerts on January 20 and 21 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, attracting a considerable fan following.

“Those who make use of boarding passes to enter the transit areas for reasons other than to travel out of Singapore will be detected and arrested,” the police said.

The offense of misusing boarding passes carries severe penalties. Offenders can face a fine of up to S$20,000 (US$14,738), a maximum imprisonment term of two years, or both.

Recent data provided by the police indicates that 23 individuals were arrested in 2023 for misusing boarding passes to enter the transit area of Changi Airport without the intention of traveling out of Singapore.
