A family of four, who had just finished a meal at a nearby coffee shop, were involved in the Woodlands car accident that resulted in the death of a 2-year-old child.
According to residents who spoke to Lianhe Zaobao, the child fell out of their stroller while it was sliding down the driveway and was hit by the reversing van.
Footage of the incident, shared on the Facebook page SG Road Vigilante, showed police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) at the scene of the accident.
The post said, a van collided with a baby stroller in a carpark, leaving the toddler unconscious and lifeless. The mother and son who were accompanying the child at the time were also slightly injured. Eyewitnesses reported that the mother had been pushing the stroller out from a carpark lot next to a red taxi when the van crashed into the stroller, producing a loud noise. Foreign workers who rushed to help described the scene as tragic, with the toddler having passed away on the spot.
The driver of the van was seen carrying the child while the mother was screaming and crying in despair. The toddler’s brother was also present and appeared helpless and distraught.
An ambulance was called immediately, but it was too late to save the child’s life. The incident is a heart-wrenching reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences that can arise from a moment’s carelessness.
We are deeply saddened for the loss of the precious 2-year-old child in this tragic incident. Our heart goes out to the family and loved ones during this difficult time. May the memory of the little one be a source of comfort and strength.
