In a deeply concerning case that has shocked the local community, a 28-year-old Singaporean man appeared in court on Thursday, June 15, to face charges of ill-treating two boys under his care.
The man’s identity cannot be revealed due to a gag order protecting the identities of the boys involved. Specific details about the incident, such as the location and the ages of the boys, have also been redacted from court documents to ensure their privacy.
According to the reports, it is alleged that in January 2023, the accused instructed the first boy to assume a push-up position. While the boy was in this vulnerable position, the man purportedly used a clothes hanger to repeatedly strike the boy’s buttocks.
Additionally, on March 1, 2023, at around 8 pm, the man allegedly punched the second boy numerous times on his cheek and also struck his back with a clothes hanger.
At this early stage of the proceedings, it remains unclear how these offenses came to light or what the exact relationship between the accused and the boys was.
The court has been informed that a medical report from the renowned KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital is still pending. As a result, the case has been adjourned to July for further mention, allowing more time for the investigation to progress.
Under the Children and Young Persons Act, if found guilty of ill-treating a child in his care, the accused could face a maximum penalty of eight years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to S$8,000, or both. The seriousness of the charges underscores the gravity of the alleged acts of abuse perpetrated against the vulnerable boys.
