The Police have arrested & charged a 29-year-old woman for her suspected involvement in a series of e-commerce scams.
According to reports received by the Police between 3 and 7 March 2024, the woman accepted payments via PayNow or bank transfer for the concert tickets but failed to deliver them to the buyers. Subsequent attempts to contact her were unsuccessful, leading to suspicions of fraudulent activities, as per the police press release.
After conducting investigations, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division were able to identify and apprehend the woman on 11 March 2024. Preliminary findings suggest that she may be connected to other similar reports, with total losses exceeding $24,000.
According to the reports the 29-year-old woman, Foo Mei Qi, has been charged in court with cheating a Taylor Swift fan out of S$350 for tickets to the pop star’s recent show in Singapore. It is believed that Foo scammed customers on online marketplace Carousell of more than S$24,000.
According to court documents, Foo tricked a woman into transferring S$350 to her via the PayNow platform on Sep 13, 2023, supposedly for tickets to Swift’s concert on Mar 2. Swift recently completed a series of six sold-out shows in Singapore as part of her Eras Tour.
The police conducted investigations and arrested Foo on Monday. On Tuesday, she was ordered to be remanded at Woodlands Police Division for further investigations and is scheduled to return to court on Mar 19.
If convicted of cheating, Foo could face a fine or imprisonment for up to 10 years.
