A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to 18 months’ probation in the State Courts on Tuesday, May 27, for multiple trespassing incidents and voyeurism at a junior college.

WHAT HAPPENED
According to Channel News Asia, the boy confessed that his actions stemmed from curiosity about female anatomy and urination.
The offences occurred on July 18, 2024, when the teen entered a female toilet on three separate occasions in the afternoon. He claimed he was curious about female anatomy and how women urinate, but was unsuccessful in locating any females during his attempts. His first entry was around 3.50 pm, where he sat in a cubicle and peeked through a gap below a divider, momentarily observing a female victim before she noticed him.
The victim, an 18-year-old girl, was startled but did not shout or react physically. She later reported the incident to the school’s general office and lodged a police report.
Undeterred, the teen entered the same female toilet twice more the following day, continuing his attempts to spy on women, the report added.
The prosecution highlighted that his offences were premeditated and persisted even after he was caught.
A probation suitability report was deemed appropriate to assess his rehabilitative prospects, given his young age and lack of prior offences.
The court noted the seriousness of the offences but considered his age and circumstances in sentencing.
The teen pleaded guilty to one count of trespass and one count of voyeurism; he faces additional charges of trespass considered during sentencing. His parents were placed under a S$5,000 bond to ensure his good behaviour during the probation period.
Sentencing details include the possibility of up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both for voyeurism, and up to three months’ jail or a fine of up to S$1,500 for trespass. An offender on probation will not have a criminal record.
