A 22-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to charges of distributing intimate photos of a colleague in a calculated act of revenge, according to the court proceedings reported on August 20, 2023.
The accused, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim under a gag order, showed nude photos of the victim to several colleagues while working as a student care teacher, according to CNA report.
DETAILS OF THE CASE :
The incident unfolded in December 2023, when the accused, then 21 years old, revealed intimate images of her former friend during a workplace conversation.
The victim, also 21, had previously been friends with the accused but their relationship had deteriorated. The accused acquired the explicit images from the victim’s ex-boyfriend, who had kept the photos without the victim’s consent.
The ex-boyfriend sent a screen recording to the accused, showcasing the victim’s nude photos along with private messages, laying the groundwork for the ensuing violation of privacy. Knowing the profound humiliation it would cause, the accused displayed the images during a chat with three colleagues, all of whom recognized the victim.
The situation escalated when a 23-year-old male friend of the accused, who had recently fallen out with the victim, expressed interest in obtaining damaging material for revenge.
In response, the accused shared the video containing the intimate images in a group chat, although the male friend did not proceed to distribute it further on social media.
Initially, he aimed to seek revenge on the victim by spreading that material on TikTok.

The distressing situation came to light when the victim’s husband filed a police report in March 2023, asserting that the accused had circulated nude photographs of his wife, the report added.
During the court proceedings, the judge requested a report to assess the suitability of the accused for probation and has adjourned the sentencing for further deliberation.
Under the current laws, those guilty of distributing intimate photos or videos in Singapore can face severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to five years, fines, or a combination of both.
Notably, caning, which is a form of corporal punishment, does not apply to women.
