Two men, aged 24 and 39, are set to face charges in court on 28th July 2023 for their suspected involvement in separate cases of Possession and Distribution of Child Abuse Material, along with other related offences.
The arrests of the 24-year-old and 39-year-old took place in October 2021 at Choa Chu Kang Crescent and Boon Lay Drive, respectively, after being allegedly found in possession of child abuse material. Both individuals will be charged with one count of Possession of Child Abuse Material under Section 377BK(1) of the Penal Code, according to Singapore Police Force.
Details of the cases are as follows:
The 24-year-old man is also suspected of attempting to distribute child abuse material and possessing voyeuristic videos. Moreover, between 2018 and 2019, he allegedly recorded voyeuristic videos of women on multiple occasions.
As a result, he will face additional charges, including attempted distribution of child abuse material under Section 377BI(1)(a) read with Section 511(1) of the Penal Code, possession of voyeuristic recordings under Section 377BD(1) of the Penal Code, and insulting the modesty of a woman under Section 509 of the Penal Code, the press release added.
On the other hand, the 39-year-old man was also found to be in possession of obscene videos, leading to an additional charge of possession of obscene material under Section 30(1) of the Films Act.
The possession and distribution of child abuse material are grave offences, carrying severe penalties.
Any individual found with child abuse material and aware or having reason to believe its nature will be liable for imprisonment for up to five years, along with a possible fine or caning. Those involved in distributing such material, or possessing it for distribution purposes, can face imprisonment for up to seven years, in addition to fines or caning.
The police said they will continue to take tough enforcement action against online child sexual exploitation activities, which includes cracking down on the possession and distribution of child abuse materials. Those found engaging in such despicable activities will face stern consequences in accordance with the law.
