The Singapore Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of outrage of modesty.
According to the police press release, on 23 August 2022 at about 5.30p.m, the Police were alerted to a case where a woman was purportedly molested by an unknown man inside a lift along Serangoon North Avenue 1.
ARRESTED IN JUST TWO HOURS FROM THE REPORT
Through follow-up investigations and with the aid of images from Police cameras, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established the identity of the man and arrested him within two hours from the report, the police added.
The man was charged in court on 25 August 2022.
The offence of outrage of modesty under Section 354(1) of the Penal Code 1871 carries an imprisonment term of up to two years, a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AC) Zed Teo commended his officers for their swift action in responding to, identifying, and arresting the man.
AC Zed Teo said: “The Police have zero tolerance towards sexual offenders who threaten the safety of the community and will spare no effort in ensuring that offenders are swiftly apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the law.”
