A pre-school teacher was suspended for kicking a five-year-old girl in the shin to make her sit properly on April 2 following an investigation.
According to Channel News Asia, the incident, which occurred on Apr 2, was reported to the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) the following day. The ECDA conducted its own investigations and the childcare centre suspended the teacher from preschool duties.
CNA reported that a girl was kicked in the ‘shin’ by a teacher who wanted her to sit properly.
The incident was reported to the agency on Apr 3, and after an investigation, the childcare center immediately suspended the teacher from preschool duties.
The name of the preschool was not disclosed in compliance with the Children and Young Persons Act. The teacher later resigned and has not worked in the preschool sector since, according to ECDA.
“The errant teacher subsequently resigned and, to date, she has not been working in the pre-school sector,” the ECDA said according to ST.
The child’s parents informed ST that they reported the incident to the police on April 2nd and were advised to have their daughter undergo a medical examination at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
In an email sent to the father of the child on May 14, the ECDA stated that they had reviewed the CCTV footage from the childcare centre and interviewed its staff after finding a 1cm by 1cm haematoma on the child’s right shin.
“We have ascertained that the staff had adopted inappropriate classroom management methods when she kicked your child to make her sit properly before (a) nap,” the agency told the father according to ST.
The father expressed immense relief that the teacher is no longer employed at the childcare centre. He mentioned that his daughter, who previously disliked shows with villains and conflicts, is now interested in martial arts so she can stand up to bullies.
