IMPORTANT UPDATE : This article has been updated with Singapore Police statement.
In a swift operation, the Johor police successfully rescued a 15-year-old girl who had been abducted by a man in Singapore and taken to Kuantan, Pahang.
The rescue took place within 24 hours of the initial report filed by the girl’s father, a 48-year-old Chinese national living in Johor.
The 22-year-old suspect was also arrested at the same location where the victim was rescued, according to local media reports.
The reason for filing the report in Johor is still unclear.
According to Johor police chief Datuk M. Kumar, the father, a Chinese citizen living in Johor, made the report after learning that his daughter had been absent from her secondary school in Singapore.
Upon receiving the report, authorities quickly determined that the girl had crossed the border into Malaysia via the Woodlands entry point.
“Initial investigations revealed that the victim had been transported into Malaysia from Singapore. Based on intelligence gathered by the state’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID), a team was deployed to conduct a raid in Kuantan, where the victim was successfully rescued,” Kumar stated during a press conference.
The police tracked the victim and her 22-year-old abductor, also a Chinese national, to an undisclosed location in Kuantan. The girl had endured a grueling 370-kilometer journey that lasted over five hours from Johor Baru to Pahang.
During the operation, police arrested the suspect and seized several items for further investigation, including mobile phones, clothing, and equipment believed to be used in the abduction.
Following her rescue, the victim was transported to a hospital for a medical examination. Kumar confirmed that the suspect will remain in custody following a remand order that extends until December 2.
Investigators are probing the motive for the abduction, the report added.
Johor police chief Kumar expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance during this critical situation and urged them to avoid speculation that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
