The Singapore General Election 2025 has officially commenced with the announcement of the final candidate list, following Nomination Day on Wednesday, April 23rd.
A total of 206 candidates will contest for 92 parliamentary seats across 32 constituencies.
The election features multi-cornered fights in three GRCs and two Single Member Constituencies (SMCs).
The electoral landscape has undergone significant changes, with the redrawing of electoral boundaries leading to the creation of five new Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) and six new Single Member Constituencies (SMCs).
Notably, the five-member Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC will witness a walkover by the People’s Action Party (PAP), the only constituency without opposition.
Four-Member GRC Contests :
The Four-Member GRCs will feature several key battles. In Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, a familiar face-off between the PAP, led by Transport Minister Chee Hong Tat, and the Singapore People’s Party (SPP) will continue for the fourth consecutive election.

- Holland-Bukit Timah GRC will witness Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan leading the PAP against Red Dot United (RDU), which includes former Workers’ Party (WP) member Fazli Talip.

The PAP has maintained a consistent lead in this GRC, though with a slight decrease in vote share in recent elections.
- The newly formed Pasir Ris-Changi GRC will see Ms. Indranee Rajah leading the PAP against the Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA).
- Punggol GRC, another new constituency, will see Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong leading the PAP against a WP team with all new candidates.
- Sengkang GRC, held by the WP since 2020, will see Dr. Lam Pin Min leading the PAP against the incumbent WP team led by Associate Professor Jamus Lim.

FIVE POLITICAL PARTIES PREPARE FOR ELECTION RALLIES ACROSS SINGAPORE ON APRIL 24
Five political parties are scheduled to hold election rallies on the evening of April 24, with large crowds anticipated at several police-approved venues across the city-state.
Authorities have issued permits for the rallies, which will take place from 7pm to 10pm, as part of the ongoing electoral campaign.
The participating parties include the People’s Power Party (PPP), Progress Singapore Party (PSP), People’s Action Party (PAP), Workers’ Party (WP), and the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP).
Each will host their events at designated locations: the PPP at Temasek Junior College in Tampines GRC, the PSP at Catholic High School in Marymount SMC, the PAP at Woodlands Stadium in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, the WP at a field along Anchorvale Crescent adjacent to The Vales condominium in Sengkang GRC, and the SDP at Choa Chu Kang Stadium also in Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC.
In anticipation of large crowds, police have strongly encouraged attendees to use public transportation, cautioning that traffic diversions, lane closures, and slower traffic flow may impact travel and ride-hailing pick-up and drop-off points near the rally sites. Vehicle owners are reminded that parking restrictions near the venues are in place, limiting parking to existing season parking permit holders. Vehicles found illegally parked or obstructing traffic may be subject to towing.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has also issued a ban on the flying of unauthorized drones, kites, and captive balloons over the rally sites from 6pm to 11pm to ensure safety and security.
Security measures include a comprehensive list of prohibited items at all rally locations. These include firearms and firearm parts, live and blank bullets, air pistols and rifles, spear guns, explosives, fireworks, machetes, bearing scrapers, walking sticks with blades, antique weapons, stun guns, batons, tear gas, pepper sprays, nunchakus, knuckle dusters, crossbows, industrial acids, bulletproof vests, weapon-shaped keychains, guns and grenades in toy form, kirpans, sharp objects like knives, glass bottles, and laser pointers.
Authorities emphasize that these restrictions are in place to maintain public safety during the political events, and any violations may result in arrest or other legal actions.
Residents and attendees are urged to cooperate with law enforcement and exercise caution during the rallies.
