The investigation into Transport Minister S Iswaran’s alleged involvement in a corruption probe, conducted by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), has officially concluded.
Education Minister Chan Chun Sing provided an update on the investigation in response to an oral question posed by Non-Constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) Ms Hazel Poa during a parliamentary session on Tuesday.
Minister Chan, speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, stated that the CPIB probe into Mr Iswaran’s alleged corruption has been “robust and thorough.” He further informed that the matter is currently under review by the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
Addressing the public interest surrounding the case, Minister Chan emphasized that the due legal process would be followed. Refraining from making any additional comments at this stage, he pledged that the case would be handled appropriately.
“I understand that there is much public interest in this matter.”
“I want to give my assurance that this case will be put through the due legal process,” he said.
In addition he said it would not be appropriate for him to comment at this juncture.
Mr Iswaran was apprehended last July and subsequently released on bail, after which CPIB announced his collaboration with their investigations into an undisclosed case. The nature of the investigation was not divulged by the CPIB. However, the bureau explicitly expressed its commitment to thoroughly examine the case, establishing facts and truth while safeguarding the rule of law.
Following his arrest, Mr Iswaran was put on interdiction from duty with a reduced pay of S$8,500 per month, pending further developments.
As the case moves forward into the hands of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, it is anticipated that the due legal process will determine the outcome in due course.
