A 34-year-old Chinese woman, Zhang Qiujie (transliteration), was found dead in her room at Marina Bay Sands on Dec. 20, 2025.

The police said they received a call for assistance at about 3pm at 1 Bayfront Avenue, where the woman was found motionless and pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic.

Police said preliminary investigations do not indicate foul play and investigations are ongoing.

According to Chinese-language daily Shin Min Daily News and local broadcaster 8world, Zhang’s time of death was recorded as 3:13pm. The reports said Zhang had been staying alone at the integrated resort.

Zhang’s parents arrived in Singapore on Dec. 29, nine days after her death, after applying for their passports. According to 8world, they were informed of their daughter’s death by the Chinese embassy. The parents told those assisting them that they had not heard from Zhang for about two years after she left China to work in the city.

Funeral director Zheng Haichuan told 8world that Zhang’s parents are farmers and are not well off financially. He said they described their daughter as a kind and generous person who had previously donated money to help victims of the Wenchuan earthquake.

Zheng agreed to handle Zhang’s funeral arrangements pro bono.

According to Shin Min, Zhang’s parents hoped to find out more about their daughter’s life in Singapore. Zheng told 8world that they did not know how long she had been in Singapore or the circumstances leading to her death. He added that they were unable to access her locked mobile phone and were hoping that someone who knew Zhang in Singapore might come forward to share information with the family.

Zheng said anyone with information could contact him to assist the parents.

Zhang is also survived by two teenage siblings who were unable to travel to Singapore due to the family’s financial difficulties, according to 8world.

Zhang was cremated on Jan. 1. 8world reported that her parents did not take her ashes back to China due to family circumstances and have since returned home. Zheng said he plans to lay her remains to rest at Mandai so that her siblings can visit her grave if they come to Singapore in the future.
