Man aged 33, to be charged for allegedly attacking Malaysian actor Kamal Adli with “Baton”

Malaysian actor Kamal Adli was hospitalized on Sunday night after being attacked with a baton during a fan meet at the Singapore Expo.

The incident took place during the Hari Raya Mega Sale event, where Kamal and his wife, actress Uqasha Senrose, were appearing.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and will be charged on Tuesday with voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, the police said in a press release.

According to a the statement by police on preliminary investigations revealed that the 33-year-old assailant was arrested for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon and possession of an offensive weapon.

He will be charged in court on Mar. 14 for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.

According to The Straits Times, the attacker approached Kamal during a photo-taking session, called out his name, and then pulled out the weapon from his pocket.

The assailant hit Kamal twice on the head, causing him to fall and hit his face on a table.

Despite being knocked down, Kamal asked his attacker, “Why did you hit me? What did I do?” However, the assailant continued the attack.

Kamal was rushed to Changi General Hospital, where he received four stitches. His wife, Uqasha Senrose, recounted in a teary post that the attacker used a weapon she described as a “chota” and hit Kamal repeatedly on his head, face, chest, and back.

She described the attacker as having a “sinister smile” and not seeming to care that the attack was in public.

Celebrity host Mr. Roslan Shah, who had invited the couple to the event, said that he saw many people exiting the hall and went back in to find Ms. Uqasha crying for help and a lot of blood on the floor.

As Ms. Uqasha tried to stop the bleeding with a cloth, members of the public prevented the attacker from leaving before the police arrived and arrested him.

Mr. Roslan, a Singaporean based in Malaysia for more than 22 years for work, has brought in several Malaysian actors and singers for events like the Hari Raya Mega Sale. He said that this was the first time such an incident had happened.

Previously, some celebrities would choose to bring their bodyguards, but as this was a joyous Hari Raya event, Kamal and Uqasha opted not to have one.

They did not expect this to happen.

The police have seized the baton as a case exhibit, and investigations are ongoing.

If convicted, the attacker could face up to seven years in jail, a fine, or caning.

The incident has shocked fans and the entertainment industry in Malaysia and Singapore, and many have expressed their concern and support for Kamal and Uqasha.
