Man Attacks Six People Because One Of Them Allegedly Stared At Him On New Year Day

A 30-year-old man has been arrested by the police for his suspected involvement in a case of voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon. The incident occurred at 181 Orchard Road in the early hours of 1 January 2024.

According to preliminary investigations, an alleged staring incident between the male suspect and an 18-year-old male victim sparked an altercation.

The suspect, along with four other men and a 27-year-old woman who tried to intervene, subsequently attacked the victims, according to the police press release.

All six victims, aged between 18 and 30, sustained injuries and were treated at a local hospital. Fortunately, they have all been discharged since.The perpetrator had managed to flee the scene before the police arrived.

Hwever, through diligent ground enquiries and the assistance of police cameras, officers from Tanglin Police Division were able to identify and subsequently apprehend the suspect on 2 January 2024.

The accused will appear in court on 4 January 2024.

He will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon under Section 324 of the Penal Code 1871.

According to sources, the dance club, Ark11, stated that the incident took place after operating hours. The club clarified that they were unable to confirm the knife attack as it occurred in the public toilet area of Orchard Central, specifically on the 11th and 12th levels. The club mentioned that their premises were already closed during the event, and therefore, they had no specific information about what happened.

Multiple witnesses and potential surveillance footage are being reviewed by law enforcement agencies to aid in the investigation. Regular patrons and employees of Orchard Central are urged to come forward with any relevant information that may assist the authorities in their pursuit of justice.

If convicted, he may face an imprisonment term of up to seven years, a fine, caning, or any combination of these penalties.The police have emphasized their zero tolerance for such brazen acts of violence and have assured the public that they will take swift action against offenders who blatantly disregard the law.
