A forested area near Kranji MRT station has reportedly become a hub for illegal sex workers catering to migrant workers.
A report revealed men allegedly dressed as women soliciting customers, charging about $20 per transaction and providing condoms. The area showed signs of frequent activity, including used tissues, condoms, and alcohol bottles, indicating a hidden brothel operating in the jungle.
A car factory employee, identified only by his surname Zhang, shared his unsettling encounter with Shin Min Daily News, stating that he was approached by two tall “beautiful women” while walking through the woodland on his way to work last weekend.
“They ogled (to look at someone with obvious sexual interest) me and even waved and called me over. It’s obvious they’re soliciting customers,” Zhang remarked, adding that he frequently observes migrant workers loitering around the area at night.
He suspects that there may be a hidden brothel in the jungle.
Shin Min reported that an open-air “brothel” concealed in the jungle, where ‘sexy women’, adorned with heavy makeup, approached potential customers in the wilderness and engaged in activities in the underbrush after reaching an agreement.
Following Zhang’s tip-off, a Shin Min reporter retraced his route on Thursday, September 12, and noticed a migrant worker standing near a drain at approximately 9 PM.
The worker appeared to be looking around, seemingly waiting for someone.
Returning to the spot around 10 PM, the reporter witnessed a scene that confirmed Zhang’s account : several migrant workers were gathered around two “beautiful women” clad in low-cut tops and tight bottoms.
Shortly thereafter, one of the “sexy women” accompanied a worker into the bushes.
When queried about whether they were providing “special services,” one of the women initially denied it, but later confessed, revealing that they were, in fact, “men dressed in women’s clothes.”
When asked about safety, the sex worker confidently produced a condom, saying, “You don’t need to worry; we provide condoms for free. We won’t provide service without condoms.”
Each transaction was reportedly priced at S$20, with services conducted in the bushes, the worker added.
The situation escalated further as the reporter noted four or five migrant workers waiting in the bushes at that time. Upon returning to the area the following morning, the Shin Min reporter discovered a narrow, man-made trail located a short distance from where the migrant workers had congregated the previous night.
Around 8 a.m. on Friday, September 13, the reporter returned to the jungle.
After traversing about 60 to 70 meters down the trail, they discovered a secondary path that led them roughly 10 meters further to the site. The area was littered with debris, including used tissues, beverage bottles, cans, and nearly a hundred discarded condoms.
In one corner, they found two waterproof plastic sheets alongside more used condoms, indicating that this might be the primary location for illicit activities.
Local residents were understandably shocked by the find, with one woman expressing her surprise; although she knew illegal prostitution occurred, she never imagined there could be a ‘brothel’ hidden in the jungle.
