A group of students from Montfort Secondary School has faced disciplinary action after being involved in a bullying incident that was recorded and circulated online.
The school’s vice-principal, Wilson Tay, addressed the situation in response to inquiries from The Straits Times on February 23.
Mr. Tay confirmed that the school has counseled the affected students and engaged their parents in light of the incident.
“We take the safety and well-being of all our students seriously, and have taken appropriate disciplinary actions on the students involved,” he stated, though he did not elaborate on the specifics of these actions.
Additionally, he refrained from providing details regarding when the bullying occurred or when it was reported to the school.
The vice-principal mentioned that “the students have acknowledged that their behaviours were wrong and have expressed remorse.” He emphasized the school’s zero tolerance for bullying and violence, assuring that they will “continue to seek to provide a safe learning environment for all students.”
The police have confirmed that a report was lodged and are currently looking into the matter.
The incident came to light when a video surfaced online on February 22, garnering significant attention. The incident was recorded by another individual, with a voice in the background requesting the video to be sent via WhatsApp.
