Singaporeans in or travelling to Malaysia are warned to ‘exercise vigilance’

Singapore has strongly condemned the recent attack that took place at the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor Bahru, Malaysia on 17 May 2024.

The attack resulted in the tragic deaths of two police officers and left another officer injured.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the victims, and wished the injured officer a swift recovery.

“We extend our sympathies and condolences to the bereaved families, and wish the injured officer a speedy recovery’, said MFA in its press release.

The Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and the Singapore Consulate General in Johor Bahru are closely monitoring the situation in Johor Bahru in the aftermath of the attack, MFA added.

The Ministry advised Singaporeans in Malaysia or those planning to travel there to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to ensure their personal safety.

Singaporeans are also urged to eRegister with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through their website to facilitate contact and assistance in case of emergencies.

Furthermore, Singaporeans traveling abroad are encouraged to purchase comprehensive medical and travel insurance to cover any unexpected incidents that may occur.
