A male teacher, no longer employed as an educator, has been charged with three counts of molestation, accused of sexually assaulting two seven-year-old girls at a primary school in 2019.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) confirmed that they dismissed the accused in April 2022, and he is no longer teaching in any school.
Although there is no specific gag order on the accused’s identity, there is one in place for the school’s name to protect the girls’ identities.
According to the report, the alleged incidents took place within the primary school where the accused was employed at the time. He is accused of touching the inner thigh of one of the girls, and on two separate occasions, he allegedly touched the private parts of the other girl.
The MOE expressed its commitment to maintaining high standards of conduct and discipline among its staff.
An MOE spokesperson stated, “(The ministry) takes a serious view of staff misconduct and will take disciplinary action against those who fail to adhere to our standards of conduct and discipline, including dismissal from service.”
The accused’s case has been adjourned to October 23, 2023.
If convicted, for each count of molesting a child below 14 years old, the offender can face penalties of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, caning, or a combination of these punishments.
